Burgas Terror Attack: The Casualties and What we Know

The Five Israelis Killed in The Terror Attack on Israel in Burgas, Bulgaria

It has been over 24 hours since a suicide bomber – a henious despicable terrorist – blew himself up in Burgas, Bulgaria.

Seven people had died in the attack. Five of which were “his desired target” – Israelis. Israeli citizens aborad on vacation. I guess in his twisted warped costume of a mind, there’s an explanation to this action. Forgive me if I find absolutely no reason or sense in it.

The Israeli casualties are (pictures above from left to right):

  • Kochava Shriki, age: 44. She was pregnant.
  • Amir Menashe, age: 28.
  • Itzik Kolengi, age: 28.
  • Maor Harush, age: 25.
  • Elior Priess, age: 26.

I post their names and their pictures because they are not just “Israeli tourists in Bulgaria” or “Israeli citizens”. They are people with families. With children and/or parents, with friends. Two of the men who died were married. Their wives critically injured in the attack.

So what do we know?

A suicide terrorist was at the airport for several time, with the bomb, awaiting for the Israelis to claim their luggage at the airport and board the bus. Only when they were in concetration of Israelis and then ran towards bus #2 and blew himself up. He did not manage to physically get on the bus before doing so and the estimation is that had he been able to get on the bus, this event would have been much more catastrophical (and let’s not forget how tragic it already is!)

A nearby bus has always caught on fire. Buses were quickly catching on fire and people sitting inside the buses had to jump onto broken glass to survive the fire.

As for the terrorist itself – Israel is blaming Iran and Hezbollah (both claiming they have no connection. Of course they are claiming that as well about every other terror cell uncovered in the past and there have been more than a few of those just in the past six months!). The CIA is helping the Israeli security forces investigate.

The terrorist is claimed to be Mehdi Ghezali – a Swedish citizen, Islamic, supposedly has ties to Al Qaeda and once was captured in the American base of Guantanamo. There are currenly serious doubts if that it actually him. The Swedish government claims the terrorist wasn’t its’ Citizen.

A fake Michigan License Driver was found on his remains.

In footage released by the Bulgarian Authoroties, the terrorist can be seen walking freely thought the airport while waiting for the Israelis –

For me personally this is of course very shocking. As someone who grew up in a state that is full time and time again of death and victims of war that knows many terror attacks against it, the thought of someone walking in an airport with a bomb in unconcivable. In Israel, airports are faily secured and every passanger is questioned before even allowed to approach the airline’s counter.

I guess it’s just what happens in a country that doesn’t know terror or such horrible illogical violence.

But now it does. Not because of Israel. Not because it opened it skies to allow people of all nations to relax and have a vacation in the resorts of Burgas (which turned horribly unrelaxing). No.

Bulgaria, as well as many other countries around the world, learn about terror and awful bloodshed because others think that these actions are “okay”, that this is acceptable or this is anywhere near the town of legitimate. These “others” are simply too evil to comprehend.

Kenya, Cyprus, Thailand, India, Georgia and many more suffered the knowledge of terror by the hands of Iran on their territory only in the last six month.

In 1994, the Iranian-backed terror group Hezbollah blew up a car bomb near a Jewish central in Beuneas Aires, killing over 80 people in the attack.

Argentina’s relations with Iran hadn’t been hurt, even though its’ involvement has been proven (even if not disclosed to the general public) by various agencies around the world.

India’s relations with Iran after the attack on an official Israeli convoy remained nearly intact.

So really, why am I thinking that something would or could change? These horrible acts, which don’t stop only increase, recieve such great disregard. This isn’t just one place, one time. This is all over the world, all the time. And this is when the leastest of actions can be taken. I mean, After last years terror attack through the Israeli-Egyptian border, Lebanon personally prevented the UN’s Security Council from condemning the attack (which killed 8 Israelis).

In the meantime… over the past day many of the wounded were flied over for medical treatment in Israel. Teams of both intelligence, forensic, medical and more came from Israel to Bulgaria to assist.

Shortly, the plane carrying the bodies of the five Israelis murdered in cold blood would land in Israel. And Funerals would be held. And the world would just keep spinning.
